Born for a Reason

‘Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die” (Esther 4:13-16).

Haman the son of Hammedatha was appointed a prime minister in the Medo-Persian Empire. He was the most powerful official next to King Ahasuerus the ruler of the empire. As a result of Mordecai’s refusal to bow down to him he masterminded the destruction of all the Jews in the Kingdom of King Ahasuerus.  His passion to destroy all the Jews was so strong that he offered to fund their execution at a cost of 10,000 large sacks of silver which is equivalent to twenty million dollars today. A decree was made by King Ahasuerus in April to the effect that on the 28th of February of the following year all Jews in his empire should be killed.

Unknown to King Ahasuerus and Haman, God had already prepared Esther as the deliverer of His people. Little did they know that Ahasuerus’ wife Esther was a Jew. Indeed the Almighty God who knows the end of a matter from the beginning had already provided someone through whom the devil’s plot was going to be overturned. Indeed Esther was born for a reason and so are you. Like the people of Israel, you may have come to a point of hopelessness, thinking that your fate has been decided beyond remedy. I have good news for you. With the Almighty God, all things are possible as long as you believe. As the author of life, He has the power to rewrite and alter your story. He has the power to determine the end of your story.

This study focuses on other important lessons about Israel’s redemption through Esther- Mordecai’s cousin whom he had adopted and taken care of when she lost both parents. Your past does not matter and cannot stop God from what He wants to do with you, as long as you are ready to obey Him going forward. Like Esther, you have been called to deliver your family and many others from the devil’s destruction. God’s purpose is to reveal Himself to you and empower you so that like Christ you will preach the good news to the poor, heal the broken hearted and offer deliverance to those in the devil’s captivity. Remember, your choices in life do not only affect you, your spouse and children but many others. ‘The mouth of the righteous are a fountain of life’ (Prov 10:11).

Secondly, it took prayer and fasting to overturn Haman’s deadly plot. I wish you had no enemies, but the reality is that everybody has enemies, with Satan being your arch enemy. His intention is to steal, kill and destroy you and he uses every means possible. So Paul said in Ephesians 6:10-12 that we should be strong in the Lord, because our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Some battles in life can never be won without prayer. God deliver’s His children from many plots of the enemy, but sometimes He uncovers the plots of the enemy to His children so that after we have battled and prevailed through the prayer of faith, our faith will be built up. The challenges or battles you are faced with now are not the first battles in your life. God has already delivered you from ones even greater than the present one without your knowledge. He has only made this one public that your faith will be strengthened.

Finally, it is important to note that, Esther took a risk not only for herself but the nation of Israel. She put her selfish interest aside and thought about others. It takes a life of selflessness to make a trans-generational impact. History has proven that most men who made an impact beyond their days looked beyond themselves and were not consumed by instant gratification. Esther was not supposed to approach the king without his invitation, but after seeking the face of God she did the extraordinary at the expense of her life. Some times to have extra ordinary results you need to take a risk and do the extraordinary. The key is God’s guidance.

You were born for a reason, that you will be blessed and live a legacy of blessing, but you need to grow to know God, increase in wisdom and love, to be used of God. All creation is waiting for your manifestation. May you rewrite your family’s story in Jesus’ name.
